Scrumptious Croyde Trail

10 Mile Run or Walk Event with Free Local Produce to sample along the way. The Scrumptious Croyde Trail is a magnificent 10 mile multi-terrain event that can be run or walk and starts from Croyde Bay beach field, car park. The route takes in breath-taking views of the North Devon coastline and countryside around Croyde Bay. The event is very unique and offers delicious local produce for participants to stop and try for free along the route. The run is organised by the ‘Over and Above’ NHS charity. A non-profit charity looking to raise funds to enhance patient care. Tickets for the event are £28 and are sold by Eventbrite along with all course information. Fancy dress is encouraged!

Woolacombe 10K Beach Run – Sunday 16th June 2019.

On Sunday 16th June the annual Woolacombe 10K Beach run commences at 11am and takes in the varied terrain surrounding the beautiful Woolacombe beach. The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Ilfracombe Compass, raising money for local charities and costs £16. Up for grabs are lots of trophies per age category. Good luck to all of you that enter!

North Devon AONB Marathon, Half Marathon, Plus 10K – Sunday 30th June 2019.

North Devon is blessed to be situated within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (ANOB), this year marks the 10th anniversary of the North Devon AONB Marathon and Half Marathon run by the North Devon Hospice. To mark this special occasion the organisers are adding a 10K route to ensure these sell-out events can be attended by as many people as possible. If you are up for a challenge these races are known as “one of the toughest” but most beautiful in the country. The races start and finish at the famous Woolacombe beach, there is a beer station along the way and to finish you are rewarded with a Cream Tea! Entry prices for the marathon and half marathon are £37 or £49 with an event t-shirt.

Croyde Ocean Triathlon – Sunday 14th July 2019.

Croyde Ocean triathlon celebrates its fifth year in 2019, its renown as one of the toughest triathlon’s in the country with an ethos of “inspiring people to take on their next challenge”. The event starts and finishes at Putsborough Sands which has plentiful amenities. The challenge set is; a 1.5km Ocean Swim along Putsborough beach in the Atlantic Ocean followed by a 30km Road Bike course. This circular bike route through the stunning countryside to Ilfracombe, encounters many tough elevations! The final stage of the triathlon is a 12km off road run that crosses three beautiful bays; Putsborough, Croyde and Saunton via Baggy Point. The triathlon event is run in association with The Pickwell Foundation , individual entry costs £79 and relay entry costs £110, discounts available with a British Triathlon membership number.

South West Birdman, Ilfracombe.

Want to see crazy aviators and would be pilots hurl themselves off Ilfracombe Pier into the icy waters below, to "fly" the furthest and be crowned champion of the event?
Then the South West Birdman competition is for you,
Organised by Ilfracombe Round Table, starting from 11am the event attracts thousands of people to the town and raises money for local worthy causes.
As well as the main 'flying' event, the whole day includes a live music stage with great music, a mixture of food, craft and charity stalls, children's entertainment and much more.
South West Bird Man is open to the public and free to enter.

On the Saturday, you can also watch the thrilling Clovelly Cup yacht race and a 2 mile sponsored swim from Bucks Mills to Clovelly.
And on Saturday and Sunday, there will be stalls selling delicious food, BBQs and so much entertainment for all, including live music, stilt entertainers, event-themed arts & crafts, storytelling, children’s activities, Punch & Judy, face painting, competitions and lifeboat operational displays.

Hartland Carnival

Hartland Carnival is the highlight of the year for the whole community as well as for many of our regular visitors from far and wide. The day itself will witness marching-bands, carnival royalty and impressive floats pass through the historic village followed up by a whole evening entertainment from samba bands and fire eaters through to food stalls and fun fairs. However, Hartland Carnival is far more than just a procession, the event is also preceded by a whole week of activities, fun and competitions for all the family. Jewson Barnstaple Marathon & Half Marathon – Sunday 29th September 2019 at 9am.

Want to break a personal best (PB), then this is the event for you! The Barnstaple Marathon and Half Marathon offer a “flat, fast route around the Taw Estuary”, taking in scenic views and an abundance of birdlife. This year sees the event return for its 6th year and is the home of the North Devon Road Runners (NDRR). The event starts from Rock Park, Barnstaple EX32 9AQ and entry costs £32 for the full marathon and £28 for the half, Charity places are available.

North Devon Food Festival – Barnstaple Pannier Market.

North Devon FOODfest is a celebration of everything the area has to offer in terms of food and drink. It brings together the finest ingredients, dishes, chefs, mouth-watering flavours and thirst-quenching delights.
A collection of well known North Devon food businesses will be showcased once again at this year's FOODfest - to show that locally sourced sustainable produce matters to the people who live here.
For those who love food, this is the event to visit for free tasters, popular stands and a lively atmosphere.
Last year was a real treat - famous names from the best eateries in North Devon lined up to host demonstrations and a range of delicious cocktails were shaken up between sets.

Flaming Tar barrels at Ottery St Mary.

Ottery Tar Barrels 2019: A phenomenal destination to light up your eyes just like the barrels’ do! 4pm-11:30pm.
Ottery St. Mary in Devon, England is renowned globally for the Tar Barrels event since the 17th century. As a result, Flaming Tar Barrels are carried through the streets of Ottery St Mary annually to the delight of the residents and visitors. Some weeks prior to the event which is held on November 4th, the barrels are soaked with tar, they are then lit outside each of the pubs and as soon as they are in flames, they are hoisted up onto the backs and shoulders of the local people. A total of seventeen barrels are lit over the course of the evening at the watch of thousands of people in the street. Women and boys are not left out of the event and in the afternoon and early evening, they have their barrels, but as the evening progresses, the barrels get larger weighing up to 30kgs by midnight.
