Jewson Barnstaple Marathon & Half Marathon – Sunday 29th September 2019 at 9am.
Want to break a personal best (PB), then this is the event for you! The Barnstaple Marathon and Half Marathon offer a “flat, fast route around the Taw Estuary”, taking in scenic views and an abundance of birdlife. This year sees the event return for its 6th year and is the home of the North Devon Road Runners (NDRR). The event starts from Rock Park, Barnstaple EX32 9AQ and entry costs £32 for the full marathon and £28 for the half, Charity places are available.
North Devon Food Festival – Barnstaple Pannier Market.
North Devon FOODfest is a celebration of everything the area has to offer in terms of food and drink. It brings together the finest ingredients, dishes, chefs, mouth-watering flavours and thirst-quenching delights.
A collection of well known North Devon food businesses will be showcased once again at this year's FOODfest - to show that locally sourced sustainable produce matters to the people who live here.
For those who love food, this is the event to visit for free tasters, popular stands and a lively atmosphere.
Last year was a real treat - famous names from the best eateries in North Devon lined up to host demonstrations and a range of delicious cocktails were shaken up between sets.
Clovelly Apple Day
Bring a bag of apples, have them pressed at the Visitor Centre, taste the juice, bring more for pasteurisation and bottling. On entry to Clovelly, children can enjoy apple games and crafts, apple bobbing and stomping. They'll be a farmers market plus a fun harvest hunt with spooky stories.
Flaming Tar barrels at Ottery St Mary.
Ottery Tar Barrels 2019: A phenomenal destination to light up your eyes just like the barrels’ do! 4pm-11:30pm.
Ottery St. Mary in Devon, England is renowned globally for the Tar Barrels event since the 17th century. As a result, Flaming Tar Barrels are carried through the streets of Ottery St Mary annually to the delight of the residents and visitors. Some weeks prior to the event which is held on November 4th, the barrels are soaked with tar, they are then lit outside each of the pubs and as soon as they are in flames, they are hoisted up onto the backs and shoulders of the local people. A total of seventeen barrels are lit over the course of the evening at the watch of thousands of people in the street. Women and boys are not left out of the event and in the afternoon and early evening, they have their barrels, but as the evening progresses, the barrels get larger weighing up to 30kgs by midnight.
Clovelly Herring Festival.
This popular festival celebrates sustainable fishing and herring, the 'Silver Darlings' of the sea.
Clovelly Christmas Lights.
Brass band with festive Christmas carols sung by a local choir. A hog roast, grog and mince pies follow with a visit from Father Christmas. 5pm light switch on!
North Devon Christmas Market, Braunton.
Join the festivities in Braunton with the magic of the North Devon Christmas Market. Local food producers, beer tent and high quality stalls for all your Christmas presents.
