Woolacombe is only two miles away from our holiday cottages at Willingcott Valley, but here’s a few things you might not know about the beach area...

Is Woolacombe Beach sandy?

Woolacombe boasts 3 miles of beautiful golden sand, ideal for families with young children looking to play and build castles on the shoreline. Behind the beach there are sand dunes, which provide the perfect spot to relax and escape the crowds. Woolacombe beach has won numerous awards, which have commended the beach’s cleanliness and water quality.

How long is Woolacombe Beach?

Woolacombe Beach is 3 miles (4.8 kilometres) long, making it the second largest bay in Britain after The Wash. It lies at the mouth of a valley and faces the Atlantic Ocean.

Can you surf at Woolacombe Beach?

Woolacombe is a popular surf spot for beginners and experienced surfers. Thanks to its position on the North Devon coast you can expect regular sets from the Atlantic and surf at any state of the tide. There are numerous surf schools in woolacombe which are a fantastic option for complete novices looking to pick up the basics. There are also one-to-one lessons available for seasoned surfers hoping to develop existing skills.

What facilities are at Woolacombe Beach?

Woolacombe beach has an excellent array of facilities, which help make visiting a breeze. There are numerous eating establishments on offer serving a range of hot and cold meals as well as ice cream and snacks for when you’re feeling peckish after a busy day on the beach. Younger members of the family will love the children’s rides and amusements. There are also toilet facilities and beach huts to hire.

Are there lifeguards at Woolacombe Beach?

There is a lifeguard service on the beach during the summer months. Outside of this time caution should be taken when entering the water.

If you plan on stocking up on groceries to cook in our self-catering accommodation, you will find a number of convenience stores in Woolacombe town centre as well as popular superstores just a short drive away.

What is there to do in Woolacombe?

There are so many things to see and do in Woolacombe you’ll be spoilt for choice during your stay at Willingcott Valley Holiday Village. We highly recommend local attractions such as pirate adventure golf, horse riding and coasteering, if you’re looking for an action-packed day out. Don’t forget you don’t have to spend money to have a good time as there are plenty of free things to do.

How far is Woolacombe from Ilfracombe?

Ilfracombe is a 15-minute drive from Woolacombe, making it the perfect destination for a day trip during your stay. There are busses connecting the 6 mile route, so you can leave your car at home!
